METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper under the gum. Then we slide the scraper slowly under the gum and the entire piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use high pressure because that will sometimes harm the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses more pressure than needed to clean concrete. These surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal professional.
